Hello!!
Suddenly, our school has a sister school. This is the "SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School" in Hong Kong. Every year, students from our school visit them for an exchange meeting, but this year was the first time that students from Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School visited our school for an exchange meeting. In this school diary, we would like to report on the exchange meeting.
- Opening ceremony
The opening ceremony featured a performance by our school's brass band, introductions of each other's schools and communities, and a variety of other activities. In the "Omotenashi Daisakusen" (Operation Omotenashi), our students were very creative in their efforts to introduce Japanese culture in various ways in accordance with the spirit of Japanese hospitality. In particular, the singing of "Idol/YOASOBI," a collaboration between the students with the best singing voices of the school and the brass band, made a strong impression on the students of both schools.
- Exchange meeting
The third-grade students held group discussions on topics set by each class with Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School students. At first, we had a language barrier, so we couldn't talk as much as we would have liked, but we were able to open little by little and gain a variety of knowledge through the discussions.
Second grade students exchanged with students from Lam Woo Memorial Middle School at four different booths. The first was the NG Word Game. Our school's students tried to use all the English they know to communicate. It was good that they were able to ask questions about things they didn't know and interact actively with each other. At the end, we took a picture together and enjoyed the precious experience of exchange across national borders. In the second session, "Let's learn Languages," in addition to learning each other's language, we had a lot of fun discussing various topics (favorite anime, etc...)!! At the third "Origami" booth, we taught them how to fold paper cranes in English. When they completed it, they all had big smiles on their faces and were so happy! The fourth was a quiz. We discussed it in English and decided on one answer, and everyone was so happy. We were sometimes discouraged by our poor English, but all the students of our school and Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School helped each other. It was a great day for me to have good memories with the students at Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School.
After school, the Exchange Club's project was held! The three members of the Exchange Department gave a tour of our school, and a cooking class was held with students from our school and Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School. During the tour, the club activities of our school were introduced. Each club introduced their goals and daily activities, the art club showed us their works, and the brass band demonstrated their performance. We believe that the students were able to learn about the club activities of our school. They were also very surprised at the size of the playground and the outside club activities such as soccer and tennis clubs because there are no playgrounds in Hong Kong, a city with many buildings. They were also surprised to see dustcloth hanging in the hallways and to learn that all students clean the hallways every day, a custom unique to Japan. I think the students were able to learn more about Japanese schools and Japanese culture through that tour. Then came the cooking lesson. We made "Dorayaki," the famous Japanese anime character loved one. Of course, the recipe was all in English. The students from our school and those from Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School were communicating frantically as they cooked. The finished dorayaki were not as beautiful as the ones for sale, but it seemed to be an enjoyable party that deepened mutual exchange.
This December, students from our school will visit Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School. We will post a report on that visit on our homepage, so stay tuned! Thank you very much, Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School students!! We hope to see you again!! Goodbye!!
