【Public Relations Department】 Private Clothes WEEK!!

Hello!!

Suddenly, have you ever heard of the word "well-being"? The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said, "a concept that means being in good physical, mental and social condition, with individual rights and self-realization guaranteed. It sounds like a very difficult word. Simply put, it means being comfortable, healthy, or happy.

The efforts made in our school to aim for such "wellbeing" are "Private Clothes Week" & "Colorful shirt day. This project is a joint project of the Uniform Review Working Team and the School Culture Creation Department. In this issue, we will report on these two projects.

First, let's talk about "Private Clothes Week". Up until now, the student council has been planning a "Private Clothes day," a day when students attend school in private clothes for one day. After that project, we received feedback from students that it would be easier to understand the changes that would take place when they started wearing private clothes over a longer period of time. So we decided to extend the "Private Clothes Day" to one week.

On the first day of the "Private clothes week," a "Colorful shirt day" was held. This is our school's version of an overseas movement called "Pink Shirt Day. In 2007, a boy who wore a pink shirt to school was bullied. When an upperclassman heard the story, he said, "I'm sick and tired of being bullied! Let's take action!" They called out to their classmates and on the school bulletin board, "Let's wear pink shirts together tomorrow!". Since then, "Pink Shirt Day" seems to have become "a day to show our opposition to bullying". Now, this movement has spread to about 180 countries and regions, making it a global campaign. In reference to this Pink Shirt Day, we held "colorful shirt day" at our school with the aim of "appreciating each other's individuality no matter what kind of clothes we wear".

Here are some comments from students about these two events.

During this "Private Clothes Week," I had a hard time deciding whether to wear a uniform or private clothes in the morning, and I saw people who continued to wear their uniforms, which made me think about how I should dress in school. I thought I preferred to wear private clothes because it was easier for me to move around and regulate my temperature, but I learned that there are some people who do not prefer to wear private clothes.

"Private Clothes Week" was very meaningful for me. I was hesitant to wear my own clothes for the first two days because I was embarrassed to do so. However, many of my friends who were participating in the project were able to wear their own clothes on the third day. I was a little reluctant not to wear the uniform I had worn for three years, but as I put on my own clothes, I felt that times had changed.

While there were some positive comments about wearing private clothes, such as "adjusting body temperature" and "being able to wear what I want," we also found some negative comments. There were opinions questioning the value of wearing uniforms, such as "embarrassment of wearing private clothes" and "attachment to the uniform I had been wearing for three years," as well as "strong words spoken about the clothes I was wearing. From these comments, this project made each and every one of us students seriously think about the ideal of uniforms and private uniforms.

This project was carried out with the leadership of the Uniform Study Working Team and the School Culture Creation Department, after serious consideration of how to make the school a better place to be. The thinking of each and every student in the school should lead to the realization of a better school life. I am sure that this is the "well-being" of this school. "Students will be able to challenge new things and respect each other." We will work together to create such a school. Goodbye!!
