Hello! This is the Public Relations Department! Do you remember our sister school, SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School in Hong Kong, which we introduced on this school homepage before. A few days ago, our school students visited Hong Kong and had an exchange program with them. They stayed there for four days and experienced various things in addition to the exchange program.
In this school diary, I would like to introduce the impressions and learning of our school students with their activities!
Day 1
The first day was only arriving in Hong Kong. However, they were so excited about "going abroad with their schoolmates. When they arrived in Hong Kong, it was night. It was difficult to see the cityscape clearly, but they could feel the difference between Japan (our hometown, Saga) and Hong Kong from the high level of the city lights. And they were surprised because they could see some Japanese language and names of Japanese companies in the cityscape. Also, when they saw , they felt somewhat reassured.
Day 2
The schedule for this day was, visit to the Japanese Consulate-General, sightseeing and study at tourist spots. During the visit to the Japanese Consulate, a diplomat talked about the importance of "mutual understanding" and "our 'common sense' is 'insane' in other countries" . It was a great experience for them to think about their future.
In the sightseeing and study tour, they visited "Wong Tai Sin," "Man Mo Temple," "Ladies' Market," and other tourist attractions.
The Won Tai Sin and Man Mo temple are shrines and temples in Hong Kong, but they are very different from those in Japan, and that is what shocked and interested them. They also learned about the beauty of passing on old traditions and culture.
Ladies' Market is a large open-air market in Hong Kong. They enjoyed the unique atmosphere of the street and the one-on-one conversations in English with shopkeepers and bargaining. Some of the students got carried away by the atmosphere, but it was also a learning experience for them.
Day 3
On the third day, the schedule was visiting the JTB Hong Kong Branch and Exchange meeting with the students of Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School. The branch manager of JTB Hong Kong Branch talked about "Japan's view from a foreign country" and "what is the 'working abroad'" which are hard to hear in Japan, using actual data and other information. It seemed to be an opportunity for each student to think about his or her own way of thinking and living.
The long-awaited exchange meeting. They talked about each countries (town)'s cultures, and had a classes (English・mathematics・cooking・science) in their classrooms. It seemed to be a good meeting where they could deepen their friendships while feeling each other's cultural differences. After the exchange meeting, some students from Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School joined the dinner, and the conversation seemed to go on longer than the meal.
I think it was a great experience for the students to go to a foreign country, "Hong Kong," for four days with their friends and teachers.
Thank you, Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School, for your hospitality. We are not sure when the next exchange meeting will be, but we look forward to seeing you again! Goodbye!!
